I'm glad to have found this forum. I grew up in a none religious Sunni family. Although some of the older generation in my family prayed 5 times a day, it was always pretty laid back. I was always told that what matters is the heart, and praying would happen to those who are ready.

As it would happen to me later , of course in a time of hardship. I actually learned how to pray through the internet, the traditional way.

But after a while the ritual felt empty and robotic. I also had a real problem with wudhu. I learnt it also through the internet, you wash your nose to the point of irritation and wash your feet passing your hand between the toes... until I my athlete foot got really bad.

Prayer became a drag, I lied to myself for a while because I thought this was the way. But one day on the net I came across an Edip Yuksel article about real Islam being a Quran only religion. It made sense to me because some Hadith didn't make any sense. I was never an expert but there was one that revolted me. It was the Prophet's so called farewell sermon
where he compares women to domesticated animals. Like cattle or sheep. I remember thinking how satanic that was because it implied that I was born from the bellie of a goat or the likes

So fast forward a decade and came across Sam Gerrans. Some of his work blew my mind. May Allah bless him and keep him as well as all of you. We are truth searchers.
