Avram

Peace Avram,
May I ask how you came to the Qur'an alone?
-Said

Sure.

My journey started many years ago and happened gradually. The first spark was when I travelled abroad and communicated with a Muslim colleague who was rather skeptical of the historical tradition. This opened my eyes to the fact that not everything handed down is reliable.

I tried to learn deeper about the Sunni tradition, because I thought that the issue might be my lack of knowledge, and that if I learn more, I could resolve the issues I was seeing.

Around that time, I was also learning about philosophy and history (including history of religion). It became apparent that just like previous religions fell into errors and deviations (from the Quran's perspective), that the Islamic tradition is not an exception.

Many years ago, I came across Sam Gerran's channel and similar channels presenting the Quran alone perspective. I found it to be much less self-contradictory, and much more reasonable. Even if it meant that some concepts needed more effort to understand or to rediscover (detached from traditional notions).

I am sure that there are many details along this journey that I have missed, but this is the gist of it.

Peace Avram,

The more I read the Qur'an, the more I see that it is anti-dogma. This was the thing that struck me when I first read the Qur'an: it was condemning Muslims who are so wrapped up in traditional, rituals and dogma that they have forgotten the core message of the Qur'an.

I could not agree more. That's actually the reason I chose my username here.

Avram is the Russian form of Abram, the earlier name of Abraham, according to the Bible.

I take Abraham as a role model, as he questioned the dogmas his society held to. He searched for the truth.

I pray that God guides us all to the truth, as he did with Abraham.
